The reason why I am interested in digital activism is not because I like tech. Despite the fact that I have been working in the field for two years, I am still intimidated by HTML and the intricacies of the internet. Rather, I am interested in digital activism because it promises a more equitable distribution of political power.

Today I went to the University of Santiago campus to see my boyfriend's mentor, Fernando Flores, receive an honorary doctorate. During the ceremony, a university official asked for the entire audience to stand and observe a moment of silence in memory of the tragedy at Virginia Tech. I was really touched by the show of solidarity, that the administration of a Chilean university would care about a mass murder at a university thousands of miles away.
